Avid Announces Updates
Avid recently announced the release of Media Composer 5. The update comes with a long list of new features. Each combine to push Avid to the forefront of video editing. There are a lot of really exciting new features, but these really got our attention:
- Directly access and edit RED files through AMA, without transcoding.
- Work natively with QuickTime video formats, including Apple ProRes and H.264.
- Mix and match frame sizes and aspect ratios — in addition to formats, frame rates, and resolutions — in the same timeline.
- Natively access and edit 4:2:2 MPEG-2 media from the new Canon cameras using AMA.
We’ll keep you posted with our thoughts on the new version when the upgrades are installed.
